Calculus 3 final test tomorrow. Surface integrals, triple integrals. Integral ALL the INTEGRALS. I have no idea when I'll ever need to find the area under a line and stuff but holy god I've spent the last 27 hours doing all this math. And I have 11 more hours to make sure that I understand all this. After that I have 20 hours before my Physics test to get all my Physics shit together and 4 hours after that I have my final Chemistry quiz and I'm just really done with college right now the fact I'm on a road to stay awake for almost 50 hours straight and I'm running out of coffee creamer which awkwardly is the most stressful thing right now.

Enjoy a C63 for my rant.

Man I am glad I got that shit over with. However calc 3 wasn't that bad. Algebra and all of its later incarnations are what destroyed my gpa.

As a eurobloke there's been one thing bugging me... when 'muricans say College... would that be the same as Uni over here?

Yeah I was thinking that or soph...

Hate to tell you this, but you're at the easy part of school. Especially assuming you're taking something somewhat technical since you're in calc 3. Lol.

I'm on 1st semester of senior year atm.

Calc 3 sucked. Calc 2 sucked. And Calc 4 will suck. I hated learning all that bullshit with no real world practicality. Ugh. Nightmare fuel. Engineering degree got me a job out of college though and that's better than my parent's basement

WHAT ARE INTERIOR?!

Kinja'd!!!

I haven't done an interior rendering in like a year, which means I've probably never done a good one. And I have two due in the morning plus a final board layout …. I feel the pain brother.

Join your school's Formula SAE team, THEN you'll understand the meaning of staying up 50+ hours straight. That's when you start to say things like, "Oh crap, I just realized I've been at the shop for 30 straight hours and I've got a Thermo, Heat Transfer, Feedback Controls, and Machine Design Exam tomorrow... ah well, taking them again next year will be just as fun as the first time. Besides, the headers won't weld themselves."

Count your freaking blessings. At least you still have the outside chance of escaping abject poverty and holding multiple jobs to make the ends meet. at least you still have an opportunity.

How are they teaching physics at your school if you still think calculus has no real world applications? Not only is it useful for physics and by extension engineering, but there are areas of statistics (like when you have a probability distribution) where knowing how find the area under a curve is VERY useful. Imagine you have a probability distribution and you'd like to know what makes up the middle 90% (eliminating the top and bottom 5%) although there are algebraic methods using tables those are cumbersome. It's actually much easier to integrate over the interval in question. No looking at tables, not "close enough" answers.

Another example, let's say you are part of a team designing a monitoring system for a water supply. Depending on the number of people up stream of the meter the flow might vary constantly. Let's say this meter only measures in Liters/min rather than total liters, integrating from that data would enable the computer monitoring the output of the meter will give you the total volume of water from the data you already have vs having to install a second meter that measures volume.

Sorry for the counter-rant but I have a degree in Mathematics, and have studied engineering, physics and computer science. The applications are EVERYWHERE you just haven't run into them at this point in your life. You might not depending on what you do, but you also might find that there is a good paying job that you are unable to get because you "got your passing grade and forgot the class content." That said I constantly have to "re-learn" stuff I had classes on because I hadn't used it in so long. YMMV

A college refers to a concentration, or group of concentrations (Engineering, Business, Fine Arts). A University is a collection of colleges.

You can have a college that's not part of a University, but all Universities are made up of colleges.

Frequently accredited trade schools and technical schools are colleges that aren't part of Universities.

I'm right there with ya. Calc 3 and Physics can suck it. I'm so tired of integral this, take the integral of that by trig. substitution, and then convert to polar so you can take the integral again just incase the first part didn't suck enough. Just hope the snow storm doesn't cancel our review tomorrow. It will pay off in the end, but at times, engineering blows.

Seriously, college life is better. While you're not making money in college the pros outweigh the cons:

1. While studying sucks it's better than working full time at an office job. Especially because once a class is done it's done. You can truly relax once finals are done and you have a break. With work your projects and issues pile up on top of each other. If you're a manager you hit a point after a certain number of years where you're always stressed out and always behind on something. There is never a clean break where you get to start a new quarter/semester.

2. The financial stresses of college are better than the financial stresses of adult life.

3. Your body is indestructible in college. Once you get older you are forced to take better care of yourself and not have too many late nights.

4. Making friends is so much easier in college. Nobody has an agenda. Everyone is just in the same boat studying and hanging out when not studying or writing a paper.

5. Meeting cool girls is easier in college. It only gets harder and harder as you get older because girls get married off and those that aren't married pile up more baggage.

Ok there is my adult life rant for the day. Mid 30s kind of suck...
